RFP Peer Recovery 2011
Prevention -
Generally speaking, guidelines for planning prevention services are distributed to the regional licensed substance abuse service providers each year prior to the beginning of the official planning process. Direction and technical assistance are provided by the Coordinating Agency Prevention Services Manager.
By utilizing Research, Science-based programming, Best Practices guidelines, and the Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets, we have a good opportunity to prevent substance use and abuse and actually make a difference.
As a region, we work to eliminate Risk Factors. We reduce the probability of risk-taking behaviors developing, especially with youth, by using strategies designed to provide the community with Protective Factors.
Our goal for recipients of Pathway’s prevention services, of course, would be to reduce risk-taking behaviors and/or eliminate them altogether, thus delaying the on-set of substance use and abuse and ultimately, the need for treatment services.
Involving our community youth and families in healthy, life-skill building activities, substance abuse prevention education, mentoring and leadership training opportunities will increase their ability to recognize and cope with potentially harmful situations and relationships.
